#NoPlastic Initiative

Hello everyone!!! Due to the recent surges in COVID-19, we, at Imaginative Hearts, have decided to not go outside. This means, we will not be able to donate food directly to the homeless purely for the reason to protect them and us. Also, we have been advised to stay at home, so we will abide by the Stay-at-home Lockdown for the greater good. Therefore, we started a new project. #NoPlastic Initiative. Say NO to Plastic

July 17, 2020

This is a new initiative started by Imaginative Hearts. Every year, over 8 million tons of plastics are dumped into the ocean. This is not only hurting the environment, but it is harming the marine life. We need to stop this. Since we are at home, we are not using as much plastic as we used to before. However, we need to reduce our plastic use overall.

Follow this to reduce your overall plastic use:

- Take a mason jar or any jar that is not too big. Put all your plastic trash in there every week. If your mason jar is overfilled, take another one. Take a picture of how much plastic you used that week. The next week, aim to decrease your plastic use, about 1/2 jar less. Our goal is that by the week of August 17th, you have only used 1/2 jar's worth of plastic for the entire week. This is our project.

Some tips to become plastic-use-free:

- Use reusable bags for groceries and shopping

- Don't buy plastic bags!!! Even if you recycle the plastic bags, only 3% is actually recycled. The remaining is either dumped into the ocean, or is littered. They are really lightweight, why is why many buy plastic bags, but it's light weight is the reason why we see plastic bags on trees, in oceans, and harming our environment in general.

- Plastic water bottles are also only one time-use and they also are harming our environment. Buy reusable water bottles! One person would save over 1,500 plastic bottles per year, dramatically improving our environment.

- Use glass jar or reusable jars to store your foods instead of buying one-time-use boxes or plastic bags. Many stores are offering bulk-buy, where you bring your reusable jars and fill them up with the ingredients, cereals, or whatever you need.
